The church plays a vital role in the spiritual, social, and welfare needs of its members. As a local Pentecostal church in Accra with an average membership of approximately 350, we recognize the high expectations placed on the church to respond to personal needs, emergencies, and community responsibilities. While these expectations are valid, it is equally important to understand the financial realities within which the local church operates.The financial resources of the local church are primarily derived from offerings, voluntary donations, and a portion of tithes. It is important to clarify that tithes are not retained fully at the local level. In line with established church governance structures, only one-tenth of the total tithe received each month is allocated to the local assembly. The remaining portion is remitted to the district, area, and national levels to support broader administrative, ministerial, and mission-related responsibilities. This structure significantly limits the funds available for local welfare and operational needs.Despite these constraints, the local church remains committed to supporting members’ welfare within its capacity. Funds are carefully allocated to essential areas such as welfare assistance, ministry activities, facility maintenance, and administrative obligations. However, the level of need often exceeds the resources available, making it difficult for the church to meet every expectation placed upon it.For the church to function sustainably and effectively, financial stewardship must be a shared responsibility. Transparency, accountability, and realistic expectations are essential. Members are encouraged to view giving not only as a spiritual obligation but also as a practical partnership in sustaining the work of the local church.By fostering a clear understanding of how finances flow and how resources are utilized, the church can build trust, strengthen unity, and collectively work toward fulfilling its mission with wisdom, integrity, and purpose.
